American Girl Doll Clothes

Recently I've been reminiscing about my doll playing days. If they were around when I was a kid, I would have wanted an American Girl Doll. It would've been one of those things I really wanted, but could never get because of the cost (kinda like that cabbage patch kid I never got).

Anyway, I'm here to talk about the cute little outfits I made for my coworker's daughter. She just got an American Girl for her birthday. I told my coworker that I may be able to make something for her, so we looked at some patterns on Ravelry and he had his daughter pick some out. I didn't have a doll, so using a pattern would take all the guess work out of sizing.

I still wanted a doll, so I could maybe practice my sewing skills sometime and have a little model for sizing. Luckily my neighbor found an 18" doll that's been in her daughter's daycare for a couple months. No one has claimed it, so they said she can have it. She knew I was looking for one so I can take pictures of my work. That worked out really well. Also, since her daughter isn't really into dolls, she parted with it quite easily.

The pattern that was used for this adorable dress is found on Ravelry.com called American Girl Doll Summer Dress by Danielle Bonacquisti. The hat was inspired by a free pattern called Ice Queen Hat Pattern by Mango Tree Crafts and can be found here. I used the pattern for the base of the hat, then I made a floppy brim to finish it off. The shoes were made with a free pattern as well, but I cannot seem to find it. If I happen to find it again, I will update this post with the link.

Isn't she adorable? More little clothes to come. I'm working on a blue and silver dress.

Quick Easy Winter Beanie Tutorial

I've been meaning to make this video to go along with my pattern for a long time. I finally got a chance to get to it. It's my first time actually talking in a video. It was a little weird at first and I ended up recording over my initial audio. Let me know what you think. Some parts are a little slow going, but overall not so bad for an amateur. Here's the video:

Show & Tell

Here is Holly's beautiful creation that she made using my Floppy Sun Hat pattern. I love the color changes in this yarn. She used Bernat Mosaic. Thanks so much for the picture!

Sparkle Cloche

I made this sparkly crochet cloche using my free Classic Cloche pattern. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is quite stunning, yet so simple and classy. I haven't found the perfect adornment yet. I'm thinking something in deep red. Maybe a ribbon or a flower. To make this piece, I used Hobby Lobby's I Love this Yarn! Metallic. I added a couple extra rows, and in the last row I added an increase every 10th stitch to give it a little more flair.

Show & Tell

Karen sent me pictures of her floppy sun hats made from my free pattern. They look great! She listed them on ebay.com and can be found by the username "hillbubba". Check out all her listings! Last I checked, I didn't see the sun hats, so maybe they have been sold! How exciting! Thanks for the pictures, Karen!

Brett's Viking Hat

I have recently been challenged with two projects. One is finally done and the other is very close (you will see in the next post). Brett sent me a picture and asked if I could make him a Viking hat with a beard. I almost bought a pattern for the hat, but decided to give it a try before doing that. The first try was a fail, but the second came out pretty good. I found a free pattern for the beard on Ravelry at this link. I also found a free pattern for the horns at this link. I stuffed the horns so they would keep their shape. I really like how it came out.

Perfect Fit

Remember the Cloche that I made to felt? It shrunk to the perfect size for my little neighbor. I didn't get a chance to adorn it with anything, but it still looks cute on her.. or maybe she makes the hat look cute. Either way, I think it's cute. She's adorable!

Marley Tam

I got inspiration to make this tam from watching "Marley", it's a documentary about the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. He was an amazing man. When he passed, there were so many Rastafarians wearing a tam like this one, so I decided to make one and call it the Marley Tam. I know it's very un-original, but obviously that's not what I was going for. You can find it in my online store, PerfectMix Creations.

Pinoy Rasta Hat

My cousin asked me to make a small Rasta hat with the Filipino colors. The colors were the easy part, but to make it more interesting, I wanted to put a sun on it, somehow. It was actually much easier than I thought it would be. I started with the colors, making the yellow first to make the circle, then I added the rays after finishing the rest of the hat. I am thinking of making another one with the rays extending across all of the colors and instead of one line for the rays, I'll put three, more like this:

I am happy with how it turned out. This is my prototype, so the next one is always better. Here is the back of the hat:

Show N Tell

Tia sent me this picture of her floppy hat that she made with plarn. If you don't know what that is, it's plastic yarn cut from plastic bags. She made adjustments to the pattern for the brim and added a very cute flower from a pattern that she found on Ravelry.com. It came out beautiful! Thanks for the pic, Tia.

Jamaican Rasta Tam

I crocheted this special Jamaican tam for a customer. She wanted it in the colors of the Jamaican flag with the "flag" in the back. She saw a previous hat that I made like this, but she didn't want it to be mesh like the other one. This tam also has a drawstring closure around the crown for a perfect fit. This is how it turned out. I really like it. She is going to wear it at a reggae festival in July. Sounds like fun times, ya mon!

New Rasta Hat

I whipped up a new rasta hat. It was made with a size L hook and hdc stitches. It ties around the crown for a perfect fit. Just pull and tie. This will be going in my online store for sale.

How do you like my new model? Her name is Marianna and I got her from the online Goodwill auction. There was only one other person who bid against me so I got her for a really good price. They have so many different items like yarn, jewelry, and antiques.

Bright Floppies

I love how these pictures turned out. I spent some time trying to get the all white background going on, but the room was dark and my spot light is broken. This is the best I could do for now. I'm still working on my photography skills.

Three brightly colored floppy sun hats for the summer.
I just added these for sale in my online store: PerfectMix Creations

Show -n- Tell

This is Christa's Floppy Sun Hat. She used sport weight yarn and followed the pattern as written. She says it will fit a 3 to 7 year old. A few of you asked how to tweak the pattern to make a smaller hat. I had suggested a smaller hook, or to start with fewer puff stitches in the first round. I didn't think of using a lighter weight yarn. Brilliant! Thank you for the picture, Christa! Your little girl looks adorable!

Show -n- Tell

Here is Hnin's picture of the Floppy Sun Hat that she made. This is her very first crocheted hat, and I'm so happy that she chose my pattern. She did a great job! The pastel colors remind me of coloring Easter eggs. Thanks for the pic, Hnin!

Show -n- Tell

Here is another floppy made from my pattern. Here is a link for the pattern: Floppy Sun Hat. This one is made by Kathie and she used Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Cotton!"  I really like the different shades of blue in there. Thanks for sending me the pic, Kathie, it looks great!

Beanies Made

Here are a couple of beanies I recently whipped up. The first one is from a pattern in Ravelry called Brain Waves Beanie by Liz McQueen. I was looking at some of her other patterns and she makes some great designs. I can't figure out how to top my floppy sun hat! This beanie is a free download from Ravelry. There are really so many options when it comes to the colors you want to use. Mine is pretty simple with just two colors. I used the recommended size I hook and cotton yarn. I was thinking of making another one with different shades of blue.

This one was made with my leftover yarn from the last floppy hat I made. I just kind of winged it and this is what I came up with. It actually happened to match the shirt that I was wearing when I made it.
