V-Topper Completed

My V Topper is complete! The pattern was very easy to follow and well written. If you'd like to try it, you can find the free pattern here. I haven't blocked the sweater yet, so I think it will look better after I do that. The bottom kind of rolls up a bit, so blocking will eleminate that. The only thing I might do different next time is to make the sleeves a little longer and maybe not as wide. So here is the final product and a sneak peek at the 3d wall art in my new craft room. (The room is still not done yet.)

What a beautiful sweater! You did such a nice job with it. Looks store bought - which in my family means that it was made so well that no one who didn't know your crocheted would ask 'Gee, nice sweater, did you make it?'

Ha! I know that look. I'm actually surprised since this is only the second garment I've made. Thanks for the compliment!

Very nice and great color choice! I've been thinking of making this exact same sweater, it's been on my to-do list for what seems like forever. I was wondering, do you think it would be possible to block it before you sew up the side seams??

Hi Angela,
I don't see why you couldn't block it before doing the side seams. Maybe I should have thought of that. lol. I would also suggest using the simply soft yarn. I think it would drape better because that yarn is a little heavier than the yarn I used.

I'm working on this pattern and I'm having a problem. When you finished the ribbing at the bottom beginning and switched to the row with dsst's, did you notice that the rows were significanly shorter than the ribbing, even with use of a larger hook? I've gotten to about row 13 for the 3rd time and it almost starts to look like I'm going to make a triangle since the rows keep getting shorter. Did you have this problem and do you have any advice? This is my first garment and I thought it would be an easy one to start with, but I'm ready to pull my hair out! Thanks so much!

Hi Stacy, don't pull your hair out! One thing about this pattern that was tedious for me was the constant counting. I think it was the dsst rows that threw me off. I had to count every dc in the dc rows to make sure it was the right amount every time. Somehow I would end up with and extra dc. So I would say to just count your dcs and make sure you come up with the right number for the section you're working on. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the advice! It's such a versatile sweater that I'm really hoping I can make it work and make it as beautiful as yours! Thanks again!

I've tried this pattern and just gave up. Too much precise counting and I had to frog many times! Love this sweater, but pattern just too hard!
