More Art.. Braids

This is another form of art that I like to do. It's almost like fiber arts, but not really. I love to do hair. You couldn't tell if you'd see me at work some days. I guess, some days I just don't care. I get up with just enough time to get up and get to work, so I don't have time to be worrying about how my hair looks. Sometimes I get home and see myself in the mirror and think, "I went out like this?" LOL. At least I'm not vain, right?

That is my little model, my daughter. She's been modeling for me since she was 3 months old. Yes, she had a lot of hair at 3 months!  She is now 10. Time sure flies. Since we are talking about hair, I would like to mention that my daughter donated her hair, a few years ago, to Locks of Love. I gave her the choice of selling it, donating it, or just keeping it long.  She made a generous choice and even donated one of her own dollars to the organization. She donated 12 inches of hair. It was her Christmas present to someone in need.

Superbowl Beanie

My husband is a huge New Orleans Saints fan. He was going crazy during that game last weekend. So, he is really excited that the Saints are finally going to the Superbowl. In my opinion, I think the Saints have the best colors in the NFL, and that's as far as my football knowledge goes. With all this excitement, I decided to make him a beanie with a New Orleans Fleur de lis symbol on it. He likes my beanies because they're custom made to fit him perfectly.
I did some research on tapestry crochet, and I think I might be able to pull it off. I drew the symbol on a piece of graph paper, then I tried to make the same image by filling in the boxes instead of drawing it out. It looks like I'll have to crochet the symbol upside down so it will come out right on the hat. This might take some trial and error. We'll see how it comes out. I'll post pics of my progress later.

Purple Cable Jacket

This is a work in progress. It's my first sweater! I am using the Curried Cable Jacket pattern that I found in Interweave Crochet magazine, the fall 2009 issue. I'm using Caron's Simply Soft in Violet. So far it's coming along pretty well. I messed up on one side of the front, but I don't think it's too noticeable. I still need to finish the sleeves. I think the zipper will be a challenge.

 This is the back.

Here is the front. Can you tell which side is messed up?

This is the cuff of one sleeve.

Hopefully mine comes out just as nice as this one!

Pink Camo Hat

Here's something I recently made. I made it using this pattern by Teresa. My sitter's daughter saw the hats I made for my kids and asked me to make her one. I think it came out nice.

2010

Who ever thought we'd make it to the year 2010? Back when we were growing up, we imagined 2010 as super futuristic with flying cars, metallic clothing, and robots. Come to think of it, we have come a long way from when we were kids. We never imagined touch screen cell phones, and the clarity you can get with bluray on an HD TV! Now-a-days you can do just about anything online, from shopping, to working, to video chatting with someone on the other side of the globe. I might be the only person left with a real map in my car. Everyone else seems to have some kind of GPS. It's pretty amazing and I'm sure there's much more to look forward to.

We still need to take care of our earth and each other. We as a people have also come a long way. We are not as barbaric as we used to be, but there are still some locos and fools out there. There are still people who think they are better than everyone else, and because of them there are those who think they are worth nothing. We should stop thinking "every man for himself" and give a little so we can all have some.
